The Wrestling Curmudgeon on Toni Storm

In 2023, Toni Storm ditched her wrestling glam rocker persona and her The Outcasts wrestling stable to go on her own and reinvent herself.

Things have never been the same for her since.

Adopting a more glamorous personality harking back to the actresses of the Hollywood’s golden age of the 1930’s, Storm took on the nickname ‘Timeless’ and went on an upward path that led to her All-Elite Wrestling Women’s title.

Now in her fourth title reign, Storm finds herself in her greatest challenge. A title defense against the hottest wrestler ‘The CEO’ Mercedes Mone’ at the PPV All In-Texas on July 12.

This is the most anticipated women’s match in AEW history. Both women had careers in the World Wrestling Entertainment, but Storm, then using a glam rock look found little success. While Mone’, who was known as Sasha Banks, had a decorated run until she walked out of WWE in 2022.

Storm, who was in WWE from 2017 to 2021, had the more difficult path to this match. Known as a talented wrestler, she never broke into main event status in WWE. In AEW, after the makeover, she now enters the ring with the TV screen in black and white. She dresses in glamorous outfits from the 1930’s and even has her hair styled with that classic Hollywood look. She draws comparisons to 1930’s Hollywood starlets such as Gloria Swanson and Norma Shearer.

Added to this is Storm’s vast wrestling talent, and this match with Mone’ has all the earmarks of a modern day classic which could set the standard for Women’s Wrestling to come.

I cannot wait for this match. In the words of the wrestler/commentator Jessie Ventura. “I would pay to see this match.”

You know, I will. See you there.
