As I have stated before, my favorite match in pro wrestling is the Tag-Team match. One trope has been the ‘wacky partners who can’t get along’. This has worked to varying degrees, like The Rock and Mankind, The Rock ‘n’ Sock Connection, but one team has taken this role and become very popular recently. Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss, the ‘wacky partners who can’t get along’, are now called The Allies of Convenience.
They have already captured the World Wrestling Entertainment Women’s Tag-Team Championship from The Judgement Day, wrestled against Raquel Rodriguez and Roxanne Perez at Night One of Summer Slam and defended later on Raw to secure the Tites. These are the latest titles in the highly successful careers of Flair and Bliss. It is a contrast to both Flair and Bliss didn’t have much going recently before teaming up.
It was a matter of “what have you done lately.” Flair is a 14-Time world champion but had only one Tag-Team championship, while Bliss is a five-time world champion and three-time world Tag-Team champion. Flair had lost her recent World Title bid when she was defeated at Wrestlemania by World Champion Tiffany Stratton while Bliss wasn’t even on the card. Bliss started making overtures to Flair only to be rebuffed, at first. Bliss didn’t give up and finally they became a team to try to get on Evolution for a shot at the World Tag-Team Titles. Even though they didn’t win the Titles, they didn’t take the fall. Charlotte even saved Alexa from the Finishing move of Sol Ruca and Zaria in a key point of the match. Rodriguez and Perez did win the match, but Flair managed to get another shot for herself and Bliss at Summer Slam.
In the meantime, Flair kept stating that she and Bliss were not friends. She seemed to get annoyed whenever Bliss brought it up. In fact, the catchphrase ‘We’re not Friends’ made onto a T-Shirt which is now being sold on the WWE Website, and fans are dying to get one. The duo started to accompany each other to the ring, and their backstage promos met with overwhelming approval.
On Night One at Summer Slam, they finally won the Titles to the roar of the crowd, even though Bliss accidentally hit Flair in the face which almost cost them the bout. They win the return match which has left fans hoping that this team will have a long fruitful reign. Already I can think that there are several challengers to the titles lining up, The Kabuki Warriors, Asuka and Kari Sane, Chelsea Green’s Secret Hervice, Alba Fyre and Piper Niven and NXT’s Sol Ruca and Zaria all come to mind.
Flair and Bliss are highly charismatic and have good chemistry with each other. Their interplay on the mic has won them fans and left us hoping for more. They may not be friends, but they are a fun team to watch and here’s hoping for more.
