It has been an unwritten rule in Pro Wrestling that no wrestler should hold another promotions championship. That rule has been challenged in a most shocking way.
Whoop That Trick!!!
It has been quite a ride for the wrestler known as Trick Williams. Today he is the newly crowned TNA Champion, defeating Joe Hendry at Battleground and already made two title defenses. He is also a two-time NXT Champion. He shocked the world by winning the TNA World Championship while still being an NXT Wrestler.
A few years ago, he was only known as the sidekick to Carmelo Hayes and helped him to the NXT Title. He seemed to be stuck in that mode, but people wondered, does he have aptitude to emerge on his own? The answer, a resounding YES!
Williams is a charismatic wrestler. He has proven he can carry a title during his two NXT Title reigns, but can he be the bridge between two promotions, especially when one of those is now re-gaining steam?
Plus, will Williams be spread too thin? Appearing on both TNA and NXT programs and all the promotions that need to happen as the champion. Williams may get burn-out or worse, over-exposed. There is also the chance at this cross-promoting just may not work and the fans may not buy it.
Williams has already found allies in the TNA team First Class, (A.J. Frances and KC Navarro), this may last a while.
One thing that is very true about all of this: Williams has come a long way from a struggling college football player to becoming a wrestler who was chosen to be a groundbreaking champion.
